The IAQ Issue
IAQ Facts and Figures

Indoor Image
The air quality inside buildings is affected by many factors. In an effort to conserve energy, modern building design has favored tighter structures with lower rates of ventilation.

Factors that can have a negative effect on health and comfort in buildings range from chemical and biological pollutants, to occupant perceptions of specific stresses such as temperature, humidity, artificial light, noise and vibration.

Important sources of chemical indoor pollutants include outdoor air, the human body and human activities, emissions from building materials, furnishings and appliances and use of consumer products.

Microbial contamination is also a common indoor air quality issue. It is mostly related to the presence of humidity and moisture, and is often linked to poor maintenance practices.

About Envirosense

The Envirosense Consortium, Inc. is a group of companies who collectively offer solutions and strategies to address indoor air quality and related environmental issues focused on a "Total Systems Approach."

The Total Systems Approach incorporates three key components: building design and construction, product specifications, and operations and maintenance, as well as the collective impact that these systems have on the biosphere.

Consortium members not only advocate the Total Systems Approach, but also offer some part of the solution needed to accomplish the strategy.

The Consortium gathers and disseminates information on indoor air quality and related environmental issues including the basic ideas of sustainable design and green building principles, with special emphasis on the well being and productivity of occupants in commercial buildings.

The Consortium's educational efforts are accomplished through educational seminars and online resources.
